My Classroom
My ideal classroom would be teaching 2nd grade. I want to teach in a rural or suburban school district. I would love to teach anywhere in the Central Pennsylvania or in North or South Carolina. I think that it is important to integrate technology into my classroom because technology is very prevelant. I will use technology by having my own webpage that my students and their parents can access at home. I also want to use webquest to create fun lessons and activities for my students to complete. I will aslo use programs such as youtube for my students to watch educational video clips to introduce new concepts or to help them understand a concept. I will also use other interactive educational websites to enhance learning.

Teaching Methods: Directed Instructional VS. Constructivist
The directed instructional method is more teacher based. It stresses the student doing individual work and there are specific skill-based goals and objectives which are the same for all students. In this method the teacher teaches the skills to the students and normally it is taught through lectures and skill worksheets. The assessments for this type of teaching method are normally the traditional methods such as, multiple choice questions, short answers that require specific responses.
The constructivist model is more student-orientated and stressed group based, cooperative work. It has goals such as problem solving and critical thinking and the goals may differ for each student. The students normally generate their own knowledge through experiences instead of the teacher transferring the skills. In this method there is normally complex learning environments and the students learn through exploration. The types of assessments for constructivist models are nontraditional. They can include things such as web pages, portfolios, and a lot of group work.
I think when it comes to teaching with technology it is important that teachers use the constructivist model. I believe that students learn the most by exploring and doing things on their own. Sometimes it may be appropriate for a teacher to transmit knowledge to students but whenever possible students should learn things on their own. I also think the assessments for the constructivist method are more appropriate for technology. A true way to find out if students really know what they are doing is to have them actually do it by creating a portfolio. Answer: Graphic tools allow for the manipulation of images to illustrate documents and web pages. As a teacher, you can use these graphic tools to create pictures to add another dimension to the information being presented in a lesson. If the teacher has their own website for the class graphic tools can be used here also. Also, if the information being taught is new, it is often times very helpful to graphically organize it. This can be done in the form of charts, concept maps, etc.
2. In Phase 2 of the Technology Integration Planning Model (TIP), teachers focus on the outcomes expected as a result of integrating technology into instruction. List four methods teachers can use to assess the outcomes of the plan.
Answer: Four methods teachers can use to assess the outcomes of the plan include focusing on the results and not the processes, make statements observable and measurable, use written tests to asses skill achievement outcomes, and use evaluation criteria checklists to assess complex tasks or products.

Policies have been made which make schools responsible for ensuring equitable access and use of technologies to all students especially those from low SES families, minorities, and students with disabilities. This is very important because technology continues to expand and become more important in society today and students should know how to use it.

She took a common traditional story Beowulf and put a twist on her lesson by making her students turn it into a rap which is an extreme non-traditional type of lesson. Also at the beginning of her lesson, Mrs. Gaines made sure to review over the basic elements of Beowulf to make sure that the students understood the story correctly. Lastly by having the students make Beowulf into a rap, there is a great chance that the students will remember the events of the story more easily. All of these examples provide reasons as to why Mrs. Gaines lesson is an example of a Constructivist Model.

There was a study that had upper elementary grade students use a software collaboration tool called CSILE or Computer Supported Intentional Learning Environment. This enables students to create and post text and graphics to ask questions, search for answers, and give feedback on other students’ responses. These students performed better on standardized tests in reading, language, and vocabulary. They also did better on measures of depth of understanding, multiple perspectives and independent thought than students who did not use the software.
The second research study that I found was about how technology needs can address the needs of low performing, at risk, and students with learning disabilities by using technology applications selected to address the unique needs, strengths, and weaknesses of the student. Anchored instruction using video discs to provide real world problem solutions enables students to notice critical features of problem situations and to increase their awareness of their own changes in perception and understanding as they view the situation from different points of view. There was also another study done where students used CBT or Computer-based technology. This can provide physically challenged students with opportunities to engage in learning activities that might otherwise not be possible. The study done in Australia concluded that CBT is an effective tool in teaching basic reading and math skills to special needs students. The use of CBT led to increasingly student centered classrooms, an increase in individualized learning programs, and an overall increase in student independence.

One of the major developments that have occured in technology would be the use of microcomputers in schools. Students could work on computer activities to help teach them math and reading skills. Also it was important that students worked with techonology and stayed current with the computers. Computers were something new for students so it created a way to learn that was exciting and interesting.
The second major developments that have occured in technology would be the WorldWide Web. The WorldWide Web is known as the "Information Superhighway." The WWW combined text and graphics to improve learning. The WWW brough email, online multimedia, and videoconfernecing to teachers and students everywhere. This helped students research many things quickly and also brought about more distance learning.

One emerging trend in technology would be visual immersion systems. This is a computer-generated environment that puts students in simulated worlds. This includes full immersion systems with head mounted displays, augmented reality systems and 3-D models on computer screens. It relates the subject to the students because the student feels like they are actually partaking in the event. I really think this system would take learning to a whole new level and that is very exciting.

Kacie's First Blog
My name is Kacie Jozefick and I am currently a Junior at Lock Haven University. I am majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Reading. I am from Spring Mills, Pennsylvania which is about 15 minutes from State College. I graduated from Penns Valley Area School District in 2006. I am an only child and my two dogs (pictured above) Kudo and Sadie are my loves. I am a huge fan of sports and love watching sports especially football. I love Penn State Football and attend all of the home games football games. I also enjoy reading and camping with my family.
During high school I do not remember using a lot of technology for my learning. We did not have smart boards and we just had regular overhead projectors. We did have computer classes were we learned how to type and use basic applications such as Microsoft Office. However, in high school I was required to make slideshow presentations for many of my classes. When I got to college is when I really started to use technology in my learning. I was enrolled in ecampus where I did a lot of work for my classes. I also became acquainted with smartboard and how to operate it. During the summer I took a class that was solely online through a community college. That was a huge step for me because that is something I have never done before. I use technology for my schooling however I do not think that I use it a great deal.
I have some expectations for this course. For this course I hope to gain a lot more knowledge about technology. I hope that I can use technology to aide my learning as well as using it to aide my future students. I hope I will be able to brush up on my knowledge with using Microsoft Office tools as well as how to do new things such as create websites.
During high school I do not remember using a lot of technology for my learning. We did not have smart boards and we just had regular overhead projectors. We did have computer classes were we learned how to type and use basic applications such as Microsoft Office. However, in high school I was required to make slideshow presentations for many of my classes. When I got to college is when I really started to use technology in my learning. I was enrolled in ecampus where I did a lot of work for my classes. I also became acquainted with smartboard and how to operate it.
